| Theme from Star Trek: The Original Series |
The Best of Star Trek, Vol. 2 |
Orhcestra cond. by Alexander Courage |
TV show premiered in 1966. What can I say? If you dont recognize this theme, you havent been paying attention to American popular culture for the last 35 years . . . |
| Main Title from Star Trek: The Next Generation |
The Best of Star Trek, Vol. 2 |
Orchestra cond. by Jerry Goldsmith |
Part Jerry Goldsmith, who wrote the music for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and part Alexander Courages original fanfare. Second in the series of Star Trek TV shows, TNG was more cerebral and less swashbuckling . . . possibly proving that bald heads are sexier than bare chests. |
| Main Title from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine |
The Best of Star Trek, Vol. 2 |
Orchestra cond. by Dennis McCarthy |
Dennis McCarthy, who also composed music for TNG. Third of the TV show series, this one floundered in the early going; critics blamed the concept of a stationary space station instead of a traveling space ship for its lack of momentum. It found its feet, then lost them again, winding up a series-ending galactic war with a mess o mysticism. Bleah! |
| Main Title from Star Trek: Voyager |
The Best of Star Trek, Vol. 2 |
Orchestra cond. by Jerry Goldsmith |
Jerry Goldsmith again Fourth and possibly last of the series, Voyager tries to combine the best of all worlds with a spacefaring crew of diverse personalities learning to work together as they try to find their way back home after being flung into the very far reaches of space. Sometimes fun, often too earnest. And I really wanted to like this one! Oh, well--at least theres a Vulcan on the bridge again. |
| Suite from Galaxy Quest |
Space3: Beyond the Final Frontier |
City of Prague Philharmonic |
Music by David Newman. Very entertaining movie from last year about has-been actors from an old TV space western who are kidnapped by real aliens to save their world. Obviously a swipe at Star Trek (and its Trekkies), its never mean-spirited. Stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and the ubiquitous Alan Rickman. |
| Main Title - Star Wars |
The Essential John Williams Film Music Collection |
City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra |
"A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away . . ." 1977 movie featuring Sir Alec Guinness as Obi Wan Kenobi. He hated doing this movie and the two that followed it, but it brought him renewed fame and enough money to be secure for the rest of his life. Alec Guinness died one week ago Saturday, at the age of 86. |
| Adelas Theme from A Passage to India |
The Essential Maurice Jarre Film Music Collection |
City of Pague Philharmonic Orchestra |
Composed by Maurice Jarre. David Leans 1985 film of E.M. Forsters classic novel. Alec Guinness starred with Judy Davis, Peggy Ashcroft, James Fox, and Victor Bannerjee. |
| Overture from Lawrence of Arabia |
The Essential Maurice Jarre Film Music Collection |
City of Pague Philharmonic Orchestra |
Composed by Maurice Jarre. Another David Lean epic, released in 1962, starring Peter OToole, Omar Sharif, Arthur Kennedy, Jack Hawkins, Alec Guinness, Donald Wolfit, Claude Rains, Anthony Quayle, Anthony Quinn, and Jose Ferrer. Whew! |
