| Main Title |
The Fury (OS 1978) |
London Symphony Orchestra cond. by John Williams |
Brian DePalmas violent thriller about a young woman and child with telekinetic powers. Leonard Maltin describes it as "the ultimate litmus test for those who prefer form over content" (which pretty much describes everything DePalma has ever done). |
| Reanimator |
Greatest Science Fiction Hits IV (2000) |
Neil Norman and His Cosmic Orchestra |
Norman has made a career out of performing and recording science fiction and horror movie music. This cut (by Richard Band) is from the 1985 gore-fest of the same name, loosely based on an H.P. Lovecraft story. Leonard Maltin gives the film three stars but singles out Bands score as the weakest part of the film, describing it as too reminiscent of Bernard Herrmanns work for Psycho (1960) |
| Suite for String Orchestra |
Psycho - The Essential Alfred Hitchcock (1999) |
City of Prague Philharmonic cond. By Paul Bateman |
Music from Psycho, offered for comparison. Note that Herrmann avoided the usual horror movie cliches by using an orchestra of strings only. |
| Prologue |
The Fog (OS 1984) |
John Houseman, John Carpenter, Bowling Green-Warren County Chamber Orchestra |
From a "new expanded edition" of the soundtrack just issued on Silva Screen. Carpenter composed the score and plays keyboards. |
| Theme from The Fog |
The Fog (OS 1984) |
John Carpenter, Bowling Green-Warren County Chamber Orchestra |
|
| The Shining - Theme |
Dr. Strangelove - Music from the Film of Stanley Kubrick (1999) |
Mark Ayres |
Music composed by Walter/Wendy Carlos and Rachel Elkind, who also worked with Kubrick on his classic A Clockwork Orange. It makes heavy use of the Gregorian chant "Dies Irae" (from the Latin Requiem Mass) which is often used by composers to suggest death or the supernatural. |
| The Ghost |
Great Shakespearean Films (1989) |
National Philharmonic Orchestra cond. By Bernard Herrmann |
From Dimitri Shostakovichs score for a 1964 Russian version of Hamlet. |
| Main Theme from Ghostbusters |
Space 3 - Beyond the Final Frontier (2000) |
City of Prague Philharmonic cond. By Nic Raine |
Not as well known as the title song, this nevertheless strikes a nice balance between the creepy and funny, as does the film itself. It's by Hollywood veteran Elmer Bernstein. |
| Treehouse of Horror |
The Simpsons - Songs in the Key of Springfield (1997) |
Assorted studio musicians |
From the 1994 Halloween edition of The Simpsons. |
| The Simpsons Halloween Special End Credits Theme ("Addams Family" Homage) |
The Simpsons - Songs in the Key of Springfield (1997) |
Assorted studio musicians |
From the 1993 Halloween special. |
| The Addams Family |
Rerun Rock (1989) |
Joey Gaynor |
The TV theme as it might have been performed by Ol Blue Eyes. |
| I Put a Spell on You |
Cow Fingers and Mosquiito Pie |
Screamin' Jay Hawkins |
Kind of outside of our genre, but Amy's husband requested it, so what the heck. |
