Putting on Eyres
A new musical version of Charlotte Brontë's novel Jane Eyre opens on Broadway on Decmeber 10th (postponed from this evening, December 3rd), but there's still a gala pre-opening performance and reception this evening. We bring you music from the original cast recording as well as from the John Williams score for the 1970 TV film version (it starred Susannah York and George C. Scott).

| Jane Eyre has been in previews since November 9th. Music and lyrics are by Paul Gordon, whose songs have been recorded by such artists as Bette Midler, Amy Grant, Smokey Robinson, Quincy Jones, Patti LaBell and Vonda Shepard, among others. He has written two number one hits, Next Time I Fall in Love and Friends and Lovers. This is his first musical. The book is by John Caird (who also co-directs with Scott Schwartz), best known for his work as a director. He is an honorary Associate Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company and has directed extensively for Britains Royal National Theatre. |
