Score by Hans Zimmer (Rain Man, Prince of Egypt, The Thin Red Line and others) and Lisa Gerrard (formerly of the rock group Dead Can Dance). Gerrard also sings the solo vocals. A native of Germany, Zimmer got his start writing jingles and pop hits such as "Video Killed the Radio Star". He received two Oscar nominations in 1999 (for Prince of Egypt and The Thin Red Line). His other films include The Lion King, As Good as It Gets, The Last Emperor (with Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Byrne), Thelma and Louise, Backdraft, A League of Their Own and many others. |

In the June 28, 2000 New York Times, critic Elvis Mitchell called this movie a gruesome hybrid, a mix of sentimentality and brutality that suggests a Lethal Weapon movie directed by Norman Rockwell, although he did praise Mel Gibsons acting and physical directness. |

Rachel M. Portman was born on December 11 1960 in Haslemere, England. She won on Oscar for her score for Emma in 1996 and was nominated for her score for The Cider House Rules in 1999 (which, like Chocolat, was directed by Lasse Hallstrom).
