Dungeons and Dragons The Dead Alewives web site The Dead Alewives The dreaded Satanic secrets of Dungeons and Dragons exposed! Pass the Cheetos.
The Stuff Reefer Madness (OC 1999) Lori Alan Marijuana junkie Mae sticks with brutal boyfriend Jack because she's "hooked" on "the stuff". Reefer Madness is a hilariously manic rock musical version of the original 1936 "scare" film dramatizing the evils of marijuana. Music is by Dan Studney, lyrics by Kevin Murphy and the book by Studney and Murphy. New Line Theatre's production of Reefer Madness runs through Saturday, 6/26 at the ArtLoft, 1529 Washington.
Overture - Scene 1 The Red Detachment of Women (1992) Shanghai Ballet Orchestra, conducted by Lin Yousheng Hailed in China as the first "revolutionary ballet", this 1964 work is based on the film of the same title by Liang Zin. In the third act of the John Adams opera Nixon in China, President and Mrs. Nixon mysteriously find themselves incorporated into a production of this ballet - specifically the scenes that accompany this music. Nixon in China is being presented by Opera Theatre of St. Louis through June 26th.
Van Helsing Main Title Van Helsing: The London Assignment (OS 2004) Orchestra conducted by Dave Metzger Van Helsing: The London Assignment is a direct-to-video animated prologue to the action film Van Helsing. The plot involves the title character's confrontation with Mr. Hyde. On-line reviews have not been enthusiastic.
It's a Small World Around the World in 80 Days (OS 2004) Baha Men Critical reception for this one has been pretty tepid, as have box office receipts. Jackie Chan (as Phileas Fogg's valet Passepartout) heads an otherwise low name recognition cast. On this track, the unofficial Disney anthem (or maybe it's official, for all I know) gets an upbeat Caribbean treatment by the Bahamas-based pop group. Find out more about them at http://www.bahamen.com. The actual score for the film is by Trevor Jones.
Fun and Fresh Somewhere Over the Radio Stevens and Grdnic Shampoo for the head with no brain inside!
The Tale of Viktor Navorski The Terminal (OS 2004) Orchestra conducted by John Williams The Terminal is Steven Spielberg's latest attempt to tug on your heartstrings. It stars Tom Hanks as the hapless traveler Viktor Navorski, trapped in J.F.K. Airport when the government of his native country suddenly implodes, making his visa worthless and his return home impossible until the chaos settles down.
The Man that Got Away A Star is Born (2004) Judy Garland This is a new re-issue of the soundtrack from Garland's 1954 classic about a star couple, one (Garland) on the way up and another (James Mason) on the way down. The soundtrack has never been out of print. This version features numerous cues never before available, as well as expanded versions of other cues, like this one. The songs are by Harold Arlen and Ira Gershwin; incidental music is un-credited. In a related note, the Gateway Men's Chorus closes their 17th season with Judy, a concert paying tribute to Judy Garland. Performances take place on Friday and Saturday [June 25 and 26, 2004] at 8 PM at the Edison Theatre on the campus of Washington University. For tickets call 314-621-7286.
