It's a celebration of animation! It's also a Stage Leftover - a rebroadcast of my January 25th show. Why? Because I'm in dress rehearsals for the Alpha Players' production of Rogers and Hart's musical comedy The Boys from Syracuse. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 2 PM, May 20 through 29 at the Florissant Civic Center. Call 314-921-5678 for ticket information.

Comedy in Music, Part II Victor Borge - Live(!) Victor Borge Pianist and comic Borge was a classical prodigy, playing with major orchestras throughout Europe from the age of 13. His talent for comedy surfaced early, and he became a major star on stage, in films and on the radio. Forced to leave his native Denmark by the Nazi occupation, he fled to the USA where he eventually came to the attention of Rudy Vallee, who got him a job on the Bing Crosby radio show. He quickly became a star in the USA as well and his one-man show, Comedy in Music, was the hit of the 1953 - 1954 Broadway season. This segment features the part of the show in which Borge would take classical requests from the audience and give them his own comic spin. He died on December 23, 2000 at the age of 91.

Square Dance For Eight Egyptian Mummies Celebration on the Planet Mars The Beau Hunks Sextette Born Harry Warnow, Raymond Scott was a musical prodigy who had his own unique approach to composition. The Quintette recorded from 1937 to 1939. He went on to write and produce music for radio and TV and to experiment with electronic instruments, including an "instantaneous composing machine" called the Electronium. The Beau Hunks are a Dutch combo specializing in oddities like this; they also have a CD of Little Rascals music.
The Old Man of the Mountain Betty Boop: Original Motion Picture Cartoon Soundtracks Cab Calloway, Mae Questel Animators Max and Dave Fleischer had access to the Paramount Studio's musicians and stars when they produced their Betty Boop cartoons in the 1920s, which is how they were able to include headliners like Calloway and his band in their soundtracks.
